Swiss Emmaus was founded in 1956 in the midst of human suffering and in the wake of a bitter cold wave Switzerland had ever experienced. As an aftermath of the cold wave several community circles were formed in different Swiss towns to render organized relief measures to all those who needed help. Moved by the miserable plight of the leprosy victims, a few members of he Emmaus Federation identified leprosy work in conformity with Emmaus motto”Serve those most in need”. Organised leprosy work was carried out by supported NGOs for leprosy control work as per the National Guidelines. Due to the change in epidemiological factors the strategy of leprosy work underwent radical changes during the past few years.
